"Why would I put a home-made decoration on the side of my house? Well, I'm glad you asked, please read on..."
In this ever-changing world I think we can agree, a little more love, joy, peace, and hope is needed. But they seem so elusive.
During this season of advent, I looked back at its origins. Traditionally, it was a time of fasting, rather than opening a daily countdown calendar and enjoying a chocolate treat. Instead, each week the gifts of love, joy, peace, and hope were remembered by lighting a candle. It was preparation for the ultimate celebration, the arrival of the Light of the World.
This Light was considered the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Our guide to receiving love, joy, peace, and hope.
Lavish love, extended to all, regardless of merit. Love strong enough to demolish walls that separate and build bridges to unite.
LOVE
JOY
Unfathomable joy that can't be suppressed. Strengthening us through the challenges of life.
PEACE
Deep internal contentment, devoid of the pressures of comparison and competition.
HOPE
Inspiration to endure, look up and press on toward a better day.
These gifts can't be bought, they are freely given, but need to be pursued. Once found, love, joy, peace, and hope must be embraced and generously given away at every opportunity.
So, why did we put a home-made decoration on the side of our house? To remind us of what we truly need this Christmas. To invite you to chase love, joy, peace and hope for you, your family and community. Perhaps, as we nurture these gifts in our own lives and remember to give them away, together we can begin to change our world.
